First Game Import
Masterboard can import games from five sources: chess.com, Lichess, Lichess Studies, individual PGN files, and entire folders of PGN files. All of them start from the Import menu on the Games page. (This guide covers the most common three; see Importing Games for Lichess Studies and folder import.)
Step 1: Open the Import menu
Section titled “Step 1: Open the Import menu”Go to the Games page (left sidebar) and click the Import menu in the top-right corner. It lists every import source.
From chess.com or Lichess
Section titled “From chess.com or Lichess”- From the Import menu, choose From Chess.com… or From Lichess….
- Enter your username. If you have saved it in Settings → Connected Accounts, it will be pre-filled.
- Choose a date range (e.g. the last 3 months) and select the time controls you want to include (Bullet, Blitz, Rapid, Classical, Correspondence).
- Click Preview. Masterboard fetches and shows a list of matching games.
- Select the games you want — use the checkbox at the top to select all — then click Import.
From a PGN file
Section titled “From a PGN file”- From the Import menu, choose PGN file….
- Pick a
.pgnfile in the file dialog. Both single-game and multi-game PGN files work.
From a folder of PGN files
Section titled “From a folder of PGN files”- From the Import menu, choose PGN folder….
- Pick a directory in the file dialog. All
.pgnfiles in the folder are imported.
Folder import is recursive — subfolders are included. Deduplication applies per game, so a file appearing in multiple places is only stored once.
After import
Section titled “After import”Imported games appear in the Games list. ECO classification is applied automatically to any game that did not have an [ECO] header.
Next steps
Section titled “Next steps”- Open a game on the Home page to review and annotate it.
- Run engine analysis to classify every move automatically.
