Roadmap

Masterboard is a complete desktop chess workstation today, and it keeps growing. Here's what's available now and where it's headed. This is our direction, not a dated delivery schedule — priorities can shift as we learn what serious players need most.

Available now

Shipped

Everything Masterboard does today runs locally on your own machine — no account, no internet required after setup.

  • Cross-platform desktop app

A single native application for Windows, macOS, and Linux — no virtual machine, no compromises on any platform.

  • Game library & import

Import from PGN, chess.com, and Lichess, record over-the-board games, or sync new online games automatically. Organise with folders and collections, with duplicate detection on every import.

  • Annotation & engine analysis

Full variation trees, comments, arrows, and NAGs, plus real-time analysis with Stockfish or any UCI engine and one-click automated game review.

  • Opening repertoire & master database

Build White and Black repertoires as visual trees, cross-referenced against a downloadable, self-updating master game database and your own history.

  • Training & tactics

Spaced-repetition opening drills, personal tactics drawn from your own blunders, and Guess the Move on any game in your library.

  • Statistics & the improvement loop

Personal statistics, opponent preparation reports, and a workflow that connects game review, repertoire updates, and training into one cycle.

Coming next

In development

The next chapter extends Masterboard beyond a single desktop, while keeping the local-first experience exactly as it is today.

  • Cloud sync across devices

Keep your games, repertoires, and training schedule in sync across every computer you use — pick up exactly where you left off.

  • Web & mobile companion

Review games, drill your openings, and solve your tactics from a browser or your phone, backed by the same library as the desktop app.

Exploring

Under consideration

Areas we are actively investigating. These are directions, not commitments — priorities may shift based on what players need most.

  • Endgame training

Curated theoretical endings with the engine judging your technique, alongside the existing opening and tactics drills.

  • Coaching tools

Student rosters, assignable exercises, shared annotated games, and progress tracking for coaches and clubs.

  • Engine research tools

Engine-vs-engine matches, Monte Carlo analysis, and opening-book stress testing for deeper preparation.

  • More import paths

Direct import from Chessable, ChessTempo, and Scid databases to make switching from another tool effortless.
