OTB Recording

Masterboard includes a dedicated screen for entering games played over the board (OTB) — at a club, tournament, or casual game — directly into your database.

Opening the recording screen

The recording screen is reached from the Games page — there is no Record item in the left sidebar. Open the Games page and click the Record button.

Entering moves

The recording screen shows an interactive chessboard. Make moves by clicking or dragging pieces as you would in a normal game. The move list tracks the game in real time.

• Use the move list to navigate back if you need to correct a move.
• To change a move, step back to the previous position and play the correct move from there.

Tip

Enter the game while it’s still fresh — even a rough move sequence is better than nothing. You can always open the game on the Home page later and add annotations, engine analysis, and comments.

Saving the game

When the game is complete, click Save. A dialog asks for:

• White and Black player names
• Result (1–0, 0–1, ½–½, or *)
• Date
• Event (optional) — e.g. “Club Championship 2026”
• Site (optional)

Choose a folder to save the game into, or leave it Unfiled.

Click Save to add the game to your database.

After saving

The game appears in the Games list. From there you can:

• Open it on the Home page to add annotations and comments.
• Run engine analysis to classify every move.
